The Student Strategy and Security Journal (3SJ) is a student-led, academic journal and platform for works on strategy, security, and related topics established in March 2020, Glasgow, UK.

Swini Adikari: Swini Adikari graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelors in Government and Politics in the Spring of 2020. She is currently pursuing a Masters in Security Policy Studies (With a Concentration in Transnational Security) at the Elliott School of International Affairs at the George Washington University in Washington D.C.  Her research interests are linked to counter terrorism, intelligence, counter insurgency and non state actors specifically in the Middle East, North Africa and Sub- Saharan Africa.

Shujaat Ahmadzada: Shujaat Ahmadzada is an International Masters student in Central and East European, Russian and Eurasian Studies at the University of Glasgow, and has a background in International Relations. His research interests include conflict studies, politics of the Caucasus & Eurasia and Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT).

Chiara Artico: Chiara Artico is completing her International Masters in Security, Intelligence and Strategic Studies at the University of Glasgow (UK), Dublin City University (Ireland) and Charles University (Prague, Czech Republic). Pursuing a career in the international defence sector, her main interests are weapons of mass destruction, arms control and non-proliferation.

Lauren Bergin: Lauren Bergin is currently undertaking a Master’s degree in War Studies at the University of Glasgow, Scotland. Her interests lie in how popular media – specifically video games – both negatively and positively informs public conceptions of military history.

Nickolas Brütsch: Nickolas Brütsch holds a B.A. in International Politics from Aberystwyth University. He is an army officer and has a background in diplomacy and technology. Nickolas is pursuing an Erasmus Mundus International Masters in Security, Intelligence, and Strategic Studies at the University of Glasgow (UK), DCU (Ireland), and Charles University (Prague). His interests include Russia and the former Soviet Union, intelligence studies and the role of technology in security

 

William Davis: William J. Davis is a doctoral student at Liberty University, and holds a Master of Arts  from the University of Oklahoma, with an emphasis on administrative leadership. He is also a US Army veteran who currently serves as a Program Coordinator for the Center for Transportation Safety Leadership helping to develop safety industry leaders across the world.

Daniel Desmond: Daniel Desmond is currently undertaking a Master’s degree in National Security from Liberty University, USA. He completed three operational deployments as an Infantry Officer in the United States Army and one combat deployment as an Air Defense Battery Commander. His interests primarily lie in studying how patterns in military history and historical geopolitics can be applied to current events.

Elia Duran-Smith: Elia Duran-Smith is currently undertaking the MSc International Relations programme at the University of Glasgow. Aside from being an author, she is also a reviewer of 3SJ. Additionally, she is the Head Project Manager of the University of Glasgow’s Strategy and Security Society.

Clémence Emeriau: Clémence Emeriau is a Msc Global Security student at the University of Glasgow, UK. She is also project manager and secretary for the Strategy & Security Society (a student association whose goal is to promote learning, interactions, and networking between security practitioners, academics, and students). Her research interests revolve around hybrid and asymmetrical warfare, armed non-state actors, as well insurgency and terrorism.

Julien Fehlman: A former music professional and LSE student in international relations, Julien Fehlmann is currently enjoying his academic journey at the University of Glasgow, completing a Master’s degree in Global Security. Paul Gallienne: Paul Gallienne received BAs in Law and English, and specialized in Conflict Resolution and Peace Studies. Currently, he is an MSc Global Security student at the University of Glasgow, Scotland. His research interests include military strategy, intelligence, and hybrid warfare.

Katy Gillespie: Katy Gillespie graduated from the University of Glasgow with a joint honours degree in English literature and history in 2020 and subsequently completed her Master’s in International relations at Glasgow University in 2021. She is currently undertaking her PhD as a first-year doctoral student in feminist economics at Glasgow Caledonian University. Her research interest lies in international relations, social policy, and gender studies, particularly within the inequalities between both sexes across global economies, the unpaid and paid labour markets.

Blair Graham: Blair Graham is currently studying an MSc in International Relations, which follows on from her undergraduate study in Politics. Upon completion of her Master’s degree, she is hoping to pursue PhD research. Her main interests are international affairs and geopolitics, with a particular focus on war and the motivating factors behind them.

Benedict Haldane: Benedict Haldane is an MSc International Relations student at the University of Glasgow, having previously studied Persian & Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Edinburgh. His research interests include critical approaches to International Relations as well as contemporary foreign policy and security issues relating to the Middle East & North Africa.

Robert Hart: Robert Hart received a Ba in International Affairs and Religious Studies from Wofford College, where he focused on Middle Eastern and North African Studies, along with Old Testament and Archaeological Studies. He is currently an Msc International Relations student at the University of Glasgow. His research interests are linked to how transnational organizations and religious interest groups impact conflict over ‘sacred spaces’.

Alex Johnson: Alex Johnson is a History and Politics undergraduate at the University of Stirling nearing graduation. His research interests include historical and contemporary Chinese foreign policy, Russian and Chinese hybrid warfare, and Cold War international relations. He has also accepted an offer to study a MLitt in International Security Studies at the University of St Andrews.

She is focusing her research on social justice, Human Rights and gender, particularly within conflict and peacebuilding settings.

Sinan Kircova: Sinan Kircova received his BA in Sociology from Bogazici University along with a Minor Degree in Political Science. Upon completion of his Master’s degree in International Relations at the University of Glasgow, he will be pursuing a PhD degree in Political Science at the University of Southern California. His research interests lie in the intersection of comparative politics and political philosophy, with a focus on the confluence of religion and politics, secularism, American politics, and the MENA region.

Currently, she is pursuing an Erasmus Mundus International Masters in Security, Intelligence, and Strategic Studies at the Universities of Glasgow (UK), Trento (Italy), and Charles University (Prague). Her research interests include the use of technology in intelligence and modern warfare, China’s International Relations, Environmental Security, and nuclear non-proliferation & disarmament.

Nicolò Miotto: Nicolò Miotto  has a background in diplomacy and international relations and is completing the International Master in Security, Intelligence and Strategic Studies (IMSISS) awarded by the University of Glasgow (UK), Dublin City University (Ireland), and Charles University (Czech Republic). His research interests include the use of emerging technologies by state and non-state actors, terrorism and violent extremism, and the political dynamics of the MENA region.

Alex Olteanu: Alex Olteanu is a social entrepreneur focusing on the emergence of multi-level governance networks in post-sovereign institutional ecosystems. After completing his MRes in Global Security Studies at the University of Glasgow, he will pursue a PhD in Political Studies at Queen’s University, Kingston, Canada. Alex is the founder and President of CRÆDO and Stronger United (www.strongerunited.info), grassroots activist organisations seeking to redefine the practice of citizenship in the 21st Century.

Timon Ostermeier: Timon Ostermeier is an Erasmus Mundus International Masters student in Central and Eastern European, Russian and Eurasian Studies at the Universities of Glasgow (UK), Tartu (Estonia) and KIMEP Almaty (Kazakhstan). Steph Wallace: Steph Wallace is currently completing her Master’s degree in International Relations at the University of Glasgow. She has just started a remote internship at a security and defence think tank which she hopes will function as a springboard for pursuing a career in this field. Her research interests within this context are rooted in a gendered perspective and promoting South-South cooperation across these themes.

She previously completed her BA in International Politics at Aberystwyth University. Her research interests are centred on Security; Feminist Political Ecology and Economy; Postcolonial Studies; Poststructuralism; and South East Asia.
